First of all, I would like to note that we are not talking about the band from Cologne with the same name and the vampire stakes on the first edition of their CD packaging, but about the Norwegian formation that has existed for some time longer than the one from Germany. V.S.B. already had some success in initiated circles with their latest album 50 Hz Broken. The album is a great symbiosis from simple but catchy keyboard melodies combined with guitars and heavy drums, as well as unconventional noise elements, which combined with the distorted vocals and crazy song structure leads to a pretty bizarre sound altogether, far away from any possible comparisons.
Unfortunately, on their next single they focused on a cover version of the song "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat. But this should be overlooked because the song "Blueback" is really good and close to the previous style. "Body Cold" on the other hand is a drastic song with strong dynamics and heaviness punctuated by calm sound parts.
Vorab möchte ich festhalten, daß es sich hierbei nicht um die gleichnamige Kölner Band mit den Vampirpfählchen in der Erstauflage ihrer CD-Verpackung handelt, sondern um die norwegische Formation, die es schon einige Tage länger gibt als besagte Meister aus deutschen Landen. Mit ihrem letzten Album "50 MZ Broken" konnten V.S.B. bereits in eingeweihten Kreisen erste Erfolge verbuchen. Das Album wartete mit einer genialen Symbiose aus einfachen, aber eingängigen Keyboardmelodien, kombiniert mit sphärischen Gitarren und harten Drums sowie unkonventionellen Noiseelementen auf, die in Kombination mit einer leicht verzerrten Stimme und abgedrehter Songstruktur zu einem recht bizarren Gesamtklangbild führen, fern irgendeiner Vergleichsmöglichkeit.
So hat man sich auf der neuen Maxi leider auf eine Coverversion des abgeschmachtenen Songs "Smalltownboy" von Bronski Beat konzentriert. Dies sollte man allerdings ganz einfach übersehen, da der Song "Blue Cold" wirklich gut ist und dem ursprünglichen Stil naheliegt. "Body Cold" hingegen stellt einen echt drastischen Heuler dar mit starker Dynamik in puncto Härte und ruhigen Soundparts.
